This is certainly a departure from my usual read. A spirit inhabits Jamie Bradshaw’s house and is destroying her life. Her marriage fails, she’s beset with unexplainable illnesses, a pastor is called to exorcise the ghosts. The tension rises as Jamie battles her demons terminating with an unexpected twist coming at the end. I found it an interesting story, the concept of a haunted house is the recipe for a chilling story. I enjoyed ‘The Flies’ but it did not completely captivate me. I felt the writing could have been tightened a little, a few typos etc.
I’m sure lovers of the paranormal would enjoy ‘The Flies.’

I was grabbed by the irresistible title. It has the same intriguing effect as "The Blob." "The Flies,"... see what I mean? The author had me at "The."
I was actually looking for one of Ju Ephraime's other book when I was diverted. The cover is hard to miss. Diving in, I could see clearly that poor Jamie had some kind of psychosis. She had victim spelled all over her. It's no wonder that her husband left her. Seeped in her misery and paranoia she allows her big the house to intimidate her into taking up residence in the basement. Creepy. And on that perfect note, the poor woman becomes the target of a malevolent entity that seeps into the house making it appear to be a living organism.
Enough of the plot. The critical issue is the author's clear style that leaves no doubt that the reader has just walked into....The Twilight Zone. Yup. One of my all-time favs that always delivered a twist. Did I mention Jamie's hubby and his new squeeze move into the house? Ah yes...the plot thickens. Read for yourself to unveil the rest of the horror.
Loved it!! Being a fan of author Ju Ephraime, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. The Flies is an incredible, frightening read…I'll never look at an insect the same way anymore. Not one to give spoilers, as others have fleshed it out pretty well. This is quite a haunting page-turner, a fairly short read, full of twists and turns. And I highly recommend!
Do you like mysteries? Do you like suspense? Do you like an ending that will shock the heck out of you? Well, this short read has it all. I don't know if I'd be able to handle what Jamie had been through. I think I would've left a long time ago. This was a great read and kept me turning every page faster to find out what was going to happen next. Bravo to this fabulous author on this well written novella.
In this short but satisfying ghost story, a woman trapped by circumstances in a house that would rival the hotel in The Shining fights off spirits with less than good intentions at heart.
The main character’s back story adds to the reader’s empathy of her plight, and makes her battle much more difficult and believable. And the out-of-the-blue plot twist either leads to dismay or joy – depending solely on the reader’s imagination.
The Flies is a quick, scary read.
Wow what an excellent suspenseful story! If you like a quick read for a flight, GET THIS BOOK!
From the start you won't want to put this book down. When I tried, it bothered me, so I had to go back to finish it!
But let me give you a piece of advice, Don't try to guess the end! You won't believe it! I really think this is the type of book that you will be thinking about for days if not weeks after you read it!.
Great Read, and I can't wait to read more from this author!
This is a ghost story! Ephraime delivers a spooky tale about the haunting of a Connecticut house. Jamie moved into her two-story dream home with her husband. Instead of luxuriating in her spa master bathroom, she finds herself living in her finished basement because she's so scared of the house. What follows is a great ghost story. Eerie, hair-raising fun!
Author Ju Ephraime never fails in captivating an audience, and this brief but terrifying little book certainly is no exception. In this one, abandoned wife Jamie Bradshaw finds herself alone in a house that seems increasingly more alive...The creaks, doors opening and shutting, disembodied voices, and the constant sound of footsteps drives Jamie to involve the local priest. But the haunting doesn't stop there. Fans of mystery and thrilling stories with lots of creepy dark twists and turns will devour this little book in an evening. Ephraime's The Flies follows in a long tradition of unsettling stories; in Edgar Allan Poe fashion, her story will haunt long after the final page.
